This diagram represents the different phases of our emotions and our behavior when we arrive in a new country. The first step is called the "honeymoon" because it's an exciting time because we are impatient to live a new adventure and to discover new things. Nevertheless, after several weeks or months, we can be anxious because of homesickness and because of the language barrier too. Then comes the period of « adjustment » where we realize how lucky we are to have a rewarding experience. Then, the last step is called "acceptance" because we are less shy and we dare to talk to others.

So there are 4 ways to minimize the culture shock and to really understand these 4 steps: to do research before leaving on the country and learn about the good deals, to be open-minded and to go towards others, to accept the differences , do not judge.
